RAMS COLLEGE CLASSES & TRANSFER WHY TAKE COLLEGE CLASSES WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL? 1. To enhance or extend your high school coursework: College classes can fill gaps in the high school schedule, helps transition to college (pace, rigor), and provides curriculum that high schools can’t always provide 2. To save TIME and MONEY: College is expensive—tuition & fees, room & board, textbooks. Typical Community College semester costs: 5 classes = $2,400 tuition and fees + textbooks ($500+). A 4-yr college is almost double the cost and more when room and board are figured in. Savings can be $5,000-10,000 depending on the college of choice. College courses now reduce loan costs down the road. Completing one or more semesters in high school saves on college time, can allow you to enter the workforce earlier, or take a lighter semester later on. 3. Transfer college credits: AA or AAS degrees transfer to a community college or AA/AS degree to 4-year college/university 4. Competitive Edge: Strengthen your ACT scores and increase scholarship opportunities/acceptance into competitive programs 5. Career Planning: Explore courses and consider programs/majors and get general education courses out of the way before you enter college. 6. Research & Hands-on Learning: Develop critical thinking/problem-solving skills, learn research skills, use state-of-the-art technology/lab equipment General Education Courses & Technical Courses That Are Available
